What is headcoach?
We are a professional online therapy and wellness platform with dedicated licensed therapists created exclusively for the
mental health and wellbeing needs of sports and fitness club members. Because optimal wellness comprises a broad
spectrum of needs, we will also have coaches, nurse practitioners for medication management and nutritionists coming soon.
We have streamlined the process of getting professional and exceptional online support to help gym members unlock a thriving, fulfilling, healthy and happy life.
What has therapy to do with gyms?
The mind affects the body, and the body affects the mind.
Historically the body and mind were treated as separate entities.
For optimal health, physical wellness is one half of the picture, the other half is a fit state of mind.
If the mind is stressed, the body will be impacted.
Stress (including emotional stress) produces cortisol. Physical exercise has long been known to help combat feelings of stress. But
when stress exceeds our ability to cope, it has the capacity to fatigue body systems and cause a loss of interest in things that used
to bring joy, as well as increasing the risk of physical injury in a sports or fitness setting.
How poor wellbeing impacts gym members.
Less Exercise, Lower Metabolic Rate & Weight Gain:
Stress causes hormonal changes, reduced metabolic rate, and lower
physical energy expenditure. High stress reduces the likelihood that club members would make a healthy choice to go to or join a
gym or to sustain classes and exercise regimes.
Disrupted Sleep & Poor Diet:
Poor mental health can be caused by or lead to insomnia, which in turn prevents growth hormone
release, body repair and healing, and a loss of insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance, leading to poor food choices.
Chronic Inflammation & Disease:
When cortisol is high, very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) is released, causing damage to tissue
as it travels, and is then stored as fat in the stomach, whereupon it continues to disturb your body's stress system, increasing the risk
of heart disease and stroke. Such dysregulation in the system can actually lead to signals to release even more cortisol and illness.
What we care about at headcoach.
1. We are changing the narrative about mental health & wellbeing.
2. We believe in building mental fitness - we all do reps for our body, this is reps for the mind.
3. We remove stigma & barriers to access - we bring wellbeing support to where people already are.
